Piniongear, that IS one sweet looking Harley. Just thought of something.... the people that call Sportsters "girls bikes" are usually on the young side, old timers ask is it a 900 or a 1200 followed by a smile. Tim
Get off the bike and send his teeth down the back of his throat man I dont know what's with Harley owners, for the most part. Rubber mounts and saddle bags, radios and strobe lights Jesus Christ!
Theres 9 guys I work with that own Harley BT's... they have been laying into me about my new Sportster since I bought it. At first I was kind of pissed till I realized I probably have more fun on my bike they they do.
I mean they don't ride on cloudy days, cold days, dusty days or days when Mars isn't in line with Jupiter. And they have to spend $700 a week on the newest HD jacket or doo-rag. I'm starting to think they like talking about there bikes more then actually riding them....[sm=dontgetit.gif]
Just let those jerks know that a Sportster Is Harley-Davidson's longest produced model. The first one rolled out in 1957 and the 2007 models will celebrate (or should) fifty years of production without a break. There is no BT model with that record, and never will be.
Most of the older bikers that have ridden and been around Harley's since the 60's and 70's know about the history of Sportsters and have either owned them, or knew many bikers that rode them by choice.
I doubt if any of these guys would have negative comments to make about a Sportster. If anything riding or checking out a newer Sportster would probably bring back many fond memories.
This is back in the days before the name "Harley & Big Twin" became a fashion statement and the bike to own by the status seeking "in-crowd".
If you are 72 and riding a sportster your 'e my hero and the sportster is defiantly one of the more masculine bikes of the Harley line up next time someone says something about you're sportster take a look at what they are riding because I bet it has more comfort accessories than a new Cadillac!
Guy I know has one of those fancy Goldwings. He hasn't had it long, and it has all of the optional equipment, color screen navigation system, 80 watt audio system with cd changer, heated grips, seat, backrest and foot warming system, and get this, it even has an airbag.
It's big, he said around 875 pounds, 1830cc, 118 HP, 125 TQ, and even comes with an electric reverse. Believe he paid over $22,000 for it.
He asked me a couple of times if I would like to take it for a drive, but I'm terrified of the crazy thing. Way too many gauges, switches, buttons, and other gadgets. It would probably be easier to pilot a 747 than learn how to operate that Goldwing...
Wow some great come backs! Defently got educated here. Well, you all will never believe this. My boss that mentioned the whole "its just a sportster" deal i made this threat over. I found out he had a sportster, and even better STILL HAS IT! lol Things are much different now and has respect towards all harley's like he should. After all a Haryley is the best da*m motorcycle ever built.
