Default Derby Cover Temp..
Anyone know about how hot a derby cover gets.. Im thinking about painting mine but I need to know if I need to use High temp paint..

Never measured the actual temp but mine's only slightly warm to the touch after a hard run. Shouldn't require a high temp paint IMO.

My parents own a sign shop and I have vinyl out the yen yang.. I wonder if that would work.. but I know at temps like 120 or so it starts to shrink..

120* is well below what regular paint will withstand. Vinyl is a another story.

I wonder how getting it sand blasted would look.. im wanting the willie G skull on my derby cover but they apparently don't make them for a 98 sportster.. im having to be creative but make it still look good..

I know I could breakout my daughters be dazzler.. JK

I blasted and powdercoated my L2R derby cover for my sporty to get rid of the gold and it only cost me $20. Now if you were to touch my derby cover on my FLHX, I'd guarantee it would leave its' branding mark!

The one that was on the bike when I got it was the live to ride one.. I like it but im not a fan of gold.. and the gold now looks more like easter egg yellow.. and im wanting the Skull but I havent found it.. I was think about getting a all chrome derby cover and getting my parent to cut the skull in vinyl and put it on there or.. cut it in painters mask in reverse and paint it on there.. but so far what Ive seen you cant just paint on chrome.. so im running out of options..

I would rather do it the right way but they dont sell the damn thing..

Get your parents to cut out the skull, apply it and glass bead blast the exposed chrome with the vinyl on. Then remove the vinyl and have a powder coater put black chrome (candy) powder over it. It will be a sick custom mod that will give you what you want and it'll be something you won't see on another bike... until enough people read this!
