Default Removing Nightster side mount plate bracket

Has anyone removed the nightster side mount plate bracket? I'm about to tackle it and I read somewhere that it is riveted to the fender. I thought that it just bolted to the fender at the two frame bolt locations. I was hoping that I could sneek a wrench in there without removing the fender, but I may have to if it is necessary to drill out the rivets. Thanks in advance.....

Yes it is riveted. It's made of light weight aluminum.

Check out Part 4 of my modification videos and you'll see us drilling out the rivets and cutting the reflectors off.

Thanks man. Can you get the rear fender off without removing the frame ends and shocks?

why do you wanna move the bracket? there are so many other things to do that would add to the look of the bike before moveing that, just curious?

By 'frame ends' do you mean the struts? If so, yes.

Yeah, heh heh. Sorry that's what I meant. Thanks for the pics and vids.

old skool1983, I have a verticle curved plate mount that I am going with the mounts on the rear axle bolt. That is why I am removing the stock one. It's for sale by the way. Here is a pic of the one I am going with.

Nice looking mount and I'm sure a little $$ too. It will definitely look far better than the folding bulky nighster side mount.
I think you may also need to get a longer axle as well for that one to get the nut on since thats a softail style mount. I've got a Road 6 side mount thats only 1/8" steel and when I put the nut on its just thin enough without a washer to tighten the nut and put the
C-clip on, with a washer the nut does not thread on all the way.

I'm prolly gonna go off of the shock bolt instead of the axle due to this exact issue. I can always just get a longer shock bolt instead. I ended up taking the fender off, removing the stock plate bracket and cutting off the plate mount (sorry for anyone who may have wanted it). Without that bracket there would be a large gap in the fender above the strut that would look horrible. So I just cut off the plate part and painted and reinstalled it. Looks good. Oh well. All's good.
