I have an 05 883L with the stock buckhorn bars. I am trying to change things up a bit in an attempt to get a little more comfortable riding position. Do you guys that have drag bars like them and do they put you in a position that requires you to learn forward some?
I'm about 6 feet tall and I am curious about how drag bars would change my sitting position when compared to the buckhorn bars. I sit pretty well straight upright when on the bike as it is now, but for some reason it just doesn't feel as comfortable as I think it could.
Well, unless you change the risers, you are definitely going to lean forward more with drags, but if you said your not comfortable now, then maybe that is what you need. I have 32" drags on mine, and am quite comfortable, even on 300-400 mile trips, and I am right at 6' also. Just my .02
Stng- thanks for the reply. When you are on your bike, are you leaning slightly forward?
I'd tend to think sitting straight up is ideal, but my back gets sore when I ride in that position. I put some new progressives on the rear and added a new seat which helped some, but I'd still like to change my riding position a bit.
No, I don't sit straight up, I am leaned slightly over, but as I said, Its not enough to cause discomfort no matter the distance, even with my stock seat and shocks. On a side note though, I do have semi long arms, I believe I wear like a 34-35 arm length in a dress shirt.
Excellent! I'm built the same way with the same length arms, so that really helps me out a ton in knowing how I'd be sitting on the bike with those bars! Thanks brother!
Are the drag bars on your bike the stock bars that come on the customs?
Nope, drags don't come stock on any of the sporty models as far as I know, mine are just some generic 32 drags, with indentions for the control wires. Should be able to pick them up anywhere like J&P Cycle, or ebay.
I'm 6 foot with a Low and the first thing I did to my bike was getting rid of those stupid buckhorns and replaced them with drag bars. I found the riding position was actually more relaxed and gave me a better sense of control.
I bought my Custom used and the previous owner installed drags on it. I am 6'2" with a long reach and I have no issues with the drag bars, I like leaning forward a bit and I think a Sporty looks better with the drags verses stock bars.
Anybody have a specific recommendation about what bars they have or ones I should consider getting? There are so damn many variations with drag bars I get overwhelmed looking for a set.
