So, I'm trying to install my new Darksides.
I previously had V&H Shortshots on it.
The hookers came with exhaust gaskets.
The V&H did not.
As far as I can tell, the gaskets don't fit inside the exhaust port on the head.
Are they supposed to just sit right behind the pipe at the head.
Like, in between the pipe and the head?
And, the mounting bracket doesn't seem to fit right.
It's almost there, just a couple of milimeters off.
Any advice you guys could give would help me out tremendously.
Thanks.
Sounds like you still have the old gaskets in the head... The V&H were probably installed with the origional gaskets. If you get in there with a sharp pick the old gaskets should come out...

I agree its hard to tell that they are in there they blend right in. just scrape them out.
Yeah, once I started scraping, they came right out.
Thanks guys.
But now, that new bracket is not allowing my rear brake linkage to come all the way forward.
So, my rear brake is engaged slightly when I ride it.
I'm gonna have to take a little bit off of it to give the brake linkage some room.
So, I took it over to my sister's boyfriend's house and we took the bracket off and went at it with an angle grinder. After three attempts, we finally took enough off of it so that everything cleared everything else. Now I'm good to go. Other than that problem, I love these pipes. They sound very nice.
Hey guys, I just bought these same Hooker Rebels and have been trying to install them for the past few days. First problem was the mounting bracket interfering with the rear brake. I fixed that by grinding it down. My problem now is that the holes in my mounting bracket don't line up with the holes in the pipes, so I can't bolt them on. Also, the front pipe is touching gear crank case cover and my rear pipe is touching the front belt cover. It can't be a good thing for the pipes to be touching the covers. Something just doesn't seem right with these things... I'm gonna try and call the comapany tomorrow... but, any suggestions?? Or anybody in the Bay Area wanna come take a look at it? I'll supply the beer :-)
