Hi guys. Got an 05 883 low a rock hit my headlamp and broke out the glass. Any of you guys ever have to replace yours. Harley wants ninty bucks for one. Any good aftermarkets places you can recommend that might be cheaper. Thanks for any help jd.
Unfortunately, that's the truth. Only way to replace it is purchasing a new lamp assembly. Look at the bright side, it does come with a new bulb. (much to my own embarrassment, I simply had to include that pun...)
The trouble you're gonna run into with an aftermarket headlamp JD, is that 95% (maybe all of them) of custom headlamps are designed to mount to the bottom triple tree. If I'm not mistaken, the headlamp on the low is a hanging lamp, meaning it bolts on upside-down. You'd either have to whip out a drill, or buy the lower triple tree to an XL Custom (around $170 probably).
I don't know of any aftermarket places that sell replacement lamps, and if you find one under $50, chances are that thing will be fluted and nasty lookin on that pretty sporty. Try ebay, that will probably be your best bet of finding one cheaper than the dealer.

Maybe I'm completely missing something, but why are we talking about buying whole new assemblies, drilling holes, buying new lower triple tree clamps..etc. Just buy a new freakin' lamp and install it.

Point taken, I did ramble a bit. Apologies, tumbleweed. The relevant information in the post consisted of; I am currently unaware of any less expensive headlamp lens worth buying from aftermarket vendors.
I just got a generic 4" Glass from my local Indy shop for $29 and it seems to focus fine. If I could find an OEM on ebay reasonable I'd try it just to see if it's any better than the generic.. On my 2000 all you need is a 4" glass if a rock kills yours like it did mine...
You don't need to buy the replacement lamp from Harley. It's just a 5 3/4" round headlamp. In fact, a better choice is the Candlepower brand. Dennis Kirk sells them for under $40 and they throw a better beam pattern than the stock unit
