Who installed the kit?
Whats the compression?
Was the squish checked?
Any head work?
Any cams?
Solid or adjustable push rods?
Is it a tap or a ping?
Are you running 93 octane fuel?
Was the ignition adjusted for a 1200?

This will be a good start.
I have a similar situation with my 883 conversion. Mine certainly sounds like a tap (not a ping) and I have run everything from 89-93 octane. According to Throttle City, he simply bored the jugs and installed Muniki (spelling??) reverse dome pistons. No cams or anything like that.
Don't know the compression, no head or cam work. A couple of questions --
What is 'squish'?
How do I adjust the timing?
Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread. I've been experiencing this issue since I got my bike and haven't been able to narrow it down. I was wondering if the noise is something to worry about.
BTW I've put on nearly 7k miles with no issues.

It should sound like loud clicking noises. when you say tapping/knocking that's associated with piston slap and bent rods, and you would definitely know that sound

Well 7000 miles would be considered the test of time.
Squish is the optimum distance between the head and piston at top dead center. If thats off you can have piston / valve contact.
A lot of people just put in 1200 ignitions and that takes care of the timing issues. Some of us use programmable ignitions to fine tune it.
