There's just a tab inside the speedo mount that needs to be dremelled out. Other than that it just spins around. Ill post some more pics tomorrow. I just tucked the harness under my tank. Worked out real well. And cheap!

Alright. So just unscrew the back of the speedo housing and you will see this little metal bracket keeping the speedo in place. I just used some pliers and yanked it out then dremelled what was let on the spot holds.

Then just pull out the rubber seal on both sides. The front of the speedo just pulls out, no attachments. Rotate and reinstall the back seal. It holds everything really snug and mine has not rotated a mm. As you can see the back looks totally normal, no mods necessary.

The dummy lights have that crappy creme plastic sticking out but ill eventually make a little black box to go over it but for now it works fine.

Here's the topclamp wrenched down on the 1.5 inch risers. Nice and tight.

Most of the harness i got hidden under my tank. But ill be chopping a lot of it out in the near future and running my controls internally (they need to be shortened as well).

Still, cheap and easy mod. And a bonus is that the sun doesn't glare right off the speedo into my eyes like it did on the stock brick riser. Simple and effective. Just be sure to use some locktight! Helps a lot.

Hope this gave you an idea of what to expect. PM me if you got any other questions on the process.

I have been looking at doing something similar. But I think the bolt pattern for the risers/clamp for the 04 up customs are different than the standard Harley pattern. Anybody know for sure, but from looking I don't think they are the same.

You're right. My XL1200C is a 2006 and I have a set of 6" straight risers off a Nightrain that I want to install with a different set of bars. The bolt pattern on my Sporty riser clamp is indeed different from the standard H-D pattern. I think you're at a loss unless you can find the riser/speedo set-up from a pre-04 XL1200C or XL883C. I guess the other option would be to get a mini speedo from Drag Spcialties and mount in on your bars...you just won't have the dummy lights. I'm haveing a hard time with the decision but I'm not sure what other options are out there.

Using the riser/clamp combo off the low. Same as nightster/iron but chrome will work. But to get the risers, clamp, and back plate from my local dealer was going to be around $175.00. That on top of the cost of my new bars, cables and brake line will push my project cost to almost $600.00, and I just don't have that kind of cash to spend currently so I am looking for affordable options that use as much of my stock components as possible.
