Default Red light, green light...go!

I have been having a problem with sitting at stop lights and having to sit through a few sets of red lights. My bike must not trigger the sensors to go to green. What can I do about this? It is really annoying. I have even pulled way up and let the car behind me come forward to tigger the sensors. HELP???

Yeah, that's a known problem.

They make a very small, magnetic unit that you can attach to the bottom of your bike that will trigger the sensor at intersections and take care of this problem.

Where I live we don't have any traffic signals, so I don't use one, but guys I know in the larger cities run these and I also know of some Law Enforcement Officers that ride bikes on duty that have them installed.

Here is a link that tells all about these small units.

Being that this works only by going over the sensor I don't know how well it works. Whenever I see the line sticking up out of the road and I run my tire over it...it always turns. Its the stop lights that don't have the strips visible that tend not to turn...in those cases....RUN IT!

I haven't had any problem triggering those sensors, but if I did I'd try pulling the magnets out of a trashed hard drive and stick them to the bottom of the frame (and boy would they stick!).

I've had the same problem driving around here in Austin! I've sat for a LONG time at a couple of lights in particular.

I've never heard of those green light devices before, but that's why I'm considered a "noob" I guess.

I may figure something else out. I just don't want to start sticking things on my bike. Then again, I also don't like being stranded at lights with angry cars behind me.

Interested to hear other people's comments and/or suggestions to this!

In Tennessee I belive it is ok to run a red light on a bike as long as you stop first. I think the law says something like if you stop for a reasonable amount of time.

Put your kickstand down. Makes your bike wider and easier for the sensor to "see". Works at a local light I used to have trouble with.

I just bought this off ebay today. I'll let you guys know how it works after I get it. There is one light by the airport where I work that won't trigger for me. I work swing shift, so there isn't a lot of traffic out there at 1:00 am. Sometimes I have a pretty long wait for a car to come along to trigger the light! There are always a lot of LAPD motorcycle cops in the area and they are a bunch of a*s holes, so I'd rather not take a chance and run the red light.

As stated earlier, put your kickstand down... but put it down ON the crack/line. That is the sensor, not the big empty piece of pavement in the middle.
