best pipes and Air Intake for performance on a 2010 Iron
Im looking to get the best HP and Torque out of new pipes. Dont care if they are loud or not. Also looking for a High Flow air intake with all the ones in the HD book and others on the net I'd like your guys input from experience.
I know ill have to remap it and my dealer say its like something cost to 300 or 400$ if i heard him right... is there a cheaper way etc.
Lastly i read something about changing the ignition out to a race one or something so you can get higher RPM's and better performance... if this is right what is the best way to go on those..
thanks all I really appreciate it
Pipes- a 2 into 1 (Thunderheader, SuperTrapp, etc.)
Intake- just about any open element design will flow better than stock (SE Stage 1, big sucker, etc.)
Tuning- PCIII, Fuelpak, should be better than the dealer remap as you can change the fuel trims as you change parts and you don't have to pay a dealer everytime for a remap.
As for the ignition I don't know
I went with the D&D Bobcat and the NRHS 3" hurricane flow air filter. Won't know about numbers until I get my intake and heads back from Baisley and put in the new cam. I'm hoping to do it this weekend but have a ton of other stuff going on.
This is really subjective as most folks have had success with a lot of different combinations. This is just what I've found for performance, specifically torque: for the exhaust, I'd look at a 2-1, something like the D&D Bobcat or the RB Racing LSR Black Holes. Many more out there, my V&H 2-1 system is good also. For a high flow a/c, the HD heavy breather, mainly b/c of the shape--it's pulling in cooler air because it's not right next to the engine, which helps to keep it running cooler. I'd stay away from the Fuelpak or PCIII or any of those piggyback systems if you really want performance--go with the HD SE Super Pro Tuner or the Mastertune TTS--if performance is your key objective you'll want to be able to fine tune your bike with new heads, cams, 1250 kit, etc. I'd leave the ignition alone for now, until you start changing compression ratios with new heads/cams/rods and start doing major work to the engine. If you want to try this on the cheap end, just add a 2-1 exhaust, HD SE Stage 1 kit, and I'd still get a good tuner if you plan to do more engine upgrades down the road, the dealer $150 download may not even work with your bike, they just flash the ECM with a new map.
Buy whatever makes you happy. However I'm running a stage one kit with rush 2.25 pipes on my 2009 Street Glide. Not as loud as I was hoping they were going to be, anyway I opted for these to ensure top performance. I was told I wouldn't lose any horse power with these. I had a 2003 Road King with Hookers, they were loud and I really liked them. You might want to consider them.
Hey guys I appreciate all your wise experiences... Im going to do the motor upgrade most likely here by the end of summer or sooner if $$$$ is still there.. Ive seen the 1200 kit in the HD catalog however where do i find 1250cc kits or higher?
Is the 2 in 1 pipes loud or better sounding then the stock crap pipes? Im gonna look into getting pipes and air intake within the week so i really appreciate it.. where do you guys find the best prices for aftermarket parts...
thanks a ton.
Ill have to retune it after I put on pipes and air correct? or will it run ok but just not perfect with the mods?
ive ridden streetbikes my whole life so this HD thing is new and Im not familiar with how the F/I system works etc...
I just want the best mods for Performance before I bump up the engine...
Thanks

thanks a ton.
Dr. V Twin is a forum sponsor here and has good prices on items. And yes, the 2-1 pipes are way deeper and louder than stock, but not obnoxiously loud.

Yes, if you add a new exhaust and a/c you will want to have it retuned. If you just added pipes and left the stock a/c on there you wouldn't need to tune it, but with a new a/c and pipes the O2 sensors themselves can not compensate for that much change. The bikes run very lean and "hot", and heat=bad for engines. EFI systems are a GREAT biking world--read some of the technical info half way down on the RB Racing LSR page about tuning: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/lsr21blackhole.htm#top . Then go back to the NRHS page about the hp/tq with their 1250 kits and stage1/2 headwork and you can figure out in your own way how to get 100 hp/90tq or more on a Sportster. As soon as I hit the lottery I'm there!!
