What would be a fair market value on a 1987 Harley Sportster 883 w/1200 conversion kit. I know many factors go into this but lets put the bike at average appearance and 20,000 miles on the speedo with regular maintenance. Reason I'm inquiring is I'm going to make a friend an offer for his bike that's been sitting for awhile.
I 've been thinking of a good bike to bob and this looks like a good candidate. Is KBB trade a good number to throw at him or is that too low? I've owned metric my whole life and trade or lower is OK but with Harley I know they hold value a little better.
A Grand sounds about right,,yer gonna drop 2 grand In It prolly,,,,
Another thousand and yer up to 4k,,
4k would buy you a lot less work,,,,
1K more you'd be In a Dog bone sporty,,,a rubber mount.
I don't know where you are, but around here, that bike would be about $2,000. About $1,700 for the 883, about $2,600 for the 1100, so between the two for a fair value.
I have less than $6K in Tiff's Nightster with Short Shots, Forwards, crash bars, two up seat and sissybar, quick detach windshield and less than 3,000 miles. They can be had for a good price, so if I knew I had a couple of thou to toss into it already, I would draw the line around a grand, too. BTW, there are two 883 Lows and one 1200 for sale at a local dealership with fairly low miles for the $4K range. Mid 2000's models, too.
BTW, now my only problem with the bike is having to sell the seat and sissybar, windshield, and Cycle Shack exhaust.

Depnds on what you're looking for. if your looking for a fair "book" value, NADA is probably the most accurate. If you're looking for "market" value, what they're actually selling for, check cycle trader.
Black Book Auction price for an 87' XLH883 is $1,745, on the XLH1100 it is $2,545. These prices are reflective of average prices these models are bringing at auction across the country. Lots of dealers participate in these auctions and the figures reflect the average sales prices.
