My bike came with a security system and want to add a siren. My brother-in-law can add the siren but where would they have installed the security system? I looked under the seat and under the left side cover. However, I didn't see it there. Any suggestions for where to look would be appreciated!
If they haven't changed it since 08, it is just forward of the battery behind the fusebox, there should be a 3 wire connector with a cap on it in that area, probably ty-wraped to the wire harness, you can buy the siren from Radio Shack for about $6 and it hooks up to the Light Green/Brown wire (+) and Black wire (-) The Brown/grey wire is battery power and won't be used. The Security system is built into and is part of the turn signal module. Turn signal security module (TSSM). After further reading I guess it is called the HFSM now for Hands Free Security Module. The only difference I see between the Radio Shack unit and Harley's Smart Siren is that the Harley one has a battery back-up with a rechargable 9v battery. I guess just incase your battery gets disconnected.
With the $6 siren from Radio Shack, I just stripped the wires back and stuck the wires in the connector and replaced the cap to hold them in place. It's been that way for 2 yrs now with no issues. Simple 10 min. install.
If someone has a source/part number for the mating 3-wire Packard connector that fits the one on the bike for the siren, please chime in, I would like to get one.
I would just get the siren from harley , yea its 99 bucks , but why slice and cut into a security system when you can jus plug this siren/chirp right in..

Did you read my post? There is no cut/splice at all. And if you decide to go with the Harley hundred dollar-bird chirper, you just pull out the wires and plug it in.

Careful with messing with that alarm system unplugging any part of it may cause your bike to not start. I learned from experience.
