Default Forty eight rear fender reflector

Has anyone removed the rear fender reflector off their forty eight? It seems to be glued to the under side of the fender.

If its the same one as the N and Iron then its the easiest and cheapest mod you'll ever do. Just pull!

It's glued on. Simply push down and in, it pops right off. Same with the fork reflectors. Something thin will pop them off also.

You can't take the backing plate off easily, though, which it sounds like you're trying to do. That is riveted to the fender, and holds the license plate bracket and the wiring for the signals. Just take the reflector off the outside of it.

It's doable, just more involved. I wish I would have taken pics and did a write up when I removed mine. Like you said you'd have to removed the flip out license plate bracket and relocate your plate. Basically just put the bike on a jack, removed the 2 upper shock mounts, and jack the bike up to give yourself plenty of clearance on the fender. Do one side at a time so you dont have to worry about the fender moving everywhere. Remove the signal light, removed the bolts holding the fender to the strut, and remove the signal wiring from the holders on the reflector brackets. Remove the rivets holding the bracket to the fender, I believe it's 2 or 3. I used a Dremel tool. After the rivets are removed, take off the reflector piece and reassemble everything. I zip tied the signal wiring to the strut. Repeat the process for the other side.

I know reading that may sound like alot but when you look at it it's very self-explainatory. Plus you end up with a cool little gap between the fender and the strut.

On a side note tek your bike looks killer

Exactly. That's why I had "easily" in there. I plan to do that next winter, just have to figure out what to do with the license plate.

And thanks - yours, too!

Another tip if youre going to relocate the plate. Snip the wiring a few inches from the flip out plate bracket. Unplug it from the stock wiring harness if you need to. You can now reroute this to your new plate bracket to use as a power source for lighting your relocated plate. I soldered and shrink wrapped 2 white LED bolts on the mine and it works great. That way you dont have to splice into the stock harness.

Oh and dont throw away that stock plate bracket. Come to find out there are a few people that would take them off your hands. Especially since that same bracket that you may now consider trash sells for $170 from the MoCo parts catalog. I know this because I screwed myself out of beer money by throwing my bracket away before I know what they're worth.
