New guy with Sporster project and I need some help! Please.
Hey everyone, my name is Nick. I'm new to the Harley/bike world and got my first 95 Harley Sporster 1200 yesterday! It needs some work but what doesn't? It's got alot of aftermarket work done to it but right now I'm having some trouble in figuring out what I need to complete the exhaust? I think it's the stock exhaust that someone punched out but somehow lost the mufflers/slip ons? I also need to figure out what kind of tank I have? I know it's not a stock tank but I think it starts with a P? But not sure. I will post a couple links to pictures of the exhaust/tank and I'm sure you guys will know what I need and what's up. Glad to find a Sporster forum and I hope I can learn alot about Sporsters along the way and maybe help some other people in return. Well thanks for having me, Nick. links below.
Also if you look closley, right by the rear foot peg that clamp is holding the bottom exhaust pipe to th etop pipe...am I missing some sort of bracket? The guy said it does have the baffles still in it so I really think it's the stock exhaust and that's why they punched the holes?
that is not a stock take or mufflers ... sure is gonna be a project ..
the tank cold be anyones aftermarkt considering the flush mount caps
you might take it off and find a makers stamp on the underside in the channel ...
as for the pipes some ones idea of after mrkt pipes ... probably no marking and I and sure noisy as all get out ...
certainly will not pass the newer noise ordaninces so good luck with those
other wise welcome to the club and enjoy
Thanks for the welcome. I just ordered new pipes and got the rear and front fender off moving on to the gas tank now. I'm going to drop them off at my brothers paint shope and get them sprayed this week. I thik it may be stock exhaust but the mufflers that cover those holes are gone. people punch out the holes for sound ect..but theres mufflers that go over them..there has to be.

Those pipes are not stock and they are not missing covers (mufflers). They look like homemade drilled straight pipes.
The tank is not stock and I'm not sure who made it. The pipes look cool, but not sure how it works out with all the holes? I have and love open pipes, but never seen any with all the holes like that. The pipes are not stock. Good luck on the project and have some fun with the new bike.
Who ever drilled holes in the pipes also drilled them in the breather cover, which looks like stock without the insert. I assume the bike runs OK? Holes are likely just someone's idea of what look they wanted for the bike. Unfortunately, it can be as pricey to undo a look as to create one. Every change leads to two more. Good luck with your Sportster.
Looks like someone through on a full drag pipe exhaust system and covered the top portion of the pipes with the heat shields off of an '05 or so sporty......I say that because there's no crossover pipe under the AC and I don't see the notches for the crossover on the heatshields.
As the others stated, those are not stock "mufflers" that are just missing covers. Normal people punch/drill holes in the baffles for sound......They do not drill holes through the side of the pipes like that for sound.
The tank maybe a tank made by Paughco....Paughco has tanks that look like that.
