Have 2006 883L...Bike has never given me a bit of trouble..Still all stock. Speedo quit working and got check engine light. Bike still runs fine. Just don't know how fast I am going.
I had the same problem 2 weeks ago, with my 06 XL1200. I torque the ground connection. The problem seams to have corrected it's self. It could be the TSSM or a bad ground.
Either your wire connections are loose or your speed sensor is bad or has metal shavings stuck to it. Just had this problem with my 48 and pulled the speed sensor and there were some metal flakes on it. Wiped them off and no problems since.

The TSSM seems to be fine security stills works, everything else on the speedo-dash still works...Bike runs and starts like new as usual...Speedo just don't work..My buddies said I don't need no stinkin' speedo..Just keep up with them and slow down with them...Typical bikers. I am going to pull codes since I have the engine light, and check the ground.
If you got an engine light, you need to read the DTC's.
There's a Sticky at the top of this section if you don't know how.
Ran the diagnostics check...Got P0501 and P0502 both related to the speed sensor. One says it low the other says it's high...I'd rather be high, but that can't be good for my sensor? Low or high, sounds like it's confused? Guess I'll pull it and check it out..My old 69 FLH isn't this confusing. Either fuel or spark..Simple. The Sporty runs fine though, just no speedo.
Pull the sensor and see if it's clean or has metal particles on it. If it's clean, replacing it will probably be necessary. If it's got chit on it, clean it and try it again.
