Default Anyone know what year this engine is?
Hello

I picked up a sportster that was partially rebuilt and I believe that the frame and engine may be from different bikes.

My problem is that the engine needs a carburetor, but I am unsure which carb to order, as I do not know the year of the engine.

Here is the ID I found on the right side of the engine (* CEMJ127859 *)

Can anyone help me identify the year of this engine?

you can generally tell alot by the primary cover. and i can't tell much from the pic but it almost looks like 86-90

Correction: The J indicates a 1988 - CEMJ127859

well unless it's late 85 and has the newer 86 parts on it
