I am 5'9" and not very wide, but I had quiet air at least 2 inches above my head using the old hand test.

I repeat no buffeting and great protection with my Harley QD windshield. I recommend them to anyone planning to tour on a Sportster.

Here is the Sportster packed in Germany with the Harley windshield:

It seems that everyone is having different experiences with windshields. I figured I'd take a chance, but it just wasn't working out for me. It was actually so bad that I was having a hard time focusing. It seemed that the wind buffeting was hitting me directly on the helmet. So obviously something was wrong with my airflow. I could feel a lot of air coming from underneath. Do you feel anything like that from underneath?

It seems that all of the add on windshields never extend low enough. I had the same problem with the Memphis Fats on my Suzuki boulevard. It did knock down the wind quite a bit, but the buffeting just made it annoying and unbearable. Even with the lowers the difference was small, not to mention they just looked ridiculous when you take off the windshield. I think the only thing that really works are full fairings.

I have a Harley qd shield on my SuperLow and it is fine at speeds up to 85-90. I've ridden bikes with some sort of windshield or fairing most of the last 40 years and they have been quite different. My Glide came with one similar to an RK and I am well rid of that one, but mainly because it affected handling at speed. So as Golgo says it seems we are having different experiences. That is not unusual where Harleys and HDF members are concerned!
