Tumblers are shot - ignition is broken. Buy a new one, or...........

Make an on/off toggle switch and hide it like I did for about $10. Fvck keys.

"Get a Bigger Hammer" lol j/k the toggle switch method should be easy just splice into one of your wires either coming for your ignition switch or even your starter, and just pick up a two way toggle switch from an autoparts store, about $3.50 and simply splice that wire to the two connections to make a circuit along with a ground. lol don't laugh I just did it quick for reference. But here is my childish attempt at a diagram...

unless the switch is a lighted one you do NOT need a ground. If it is not lighted and you add a ground you will be making a direct short from +12 vdc to - 12 vdc and blow fuses or burn wires.

instead of my favorite saying "Baby go boom" it could be "baby lets burn"

this happened to me on my 82 Virago a few years ago. Only, I couldn't even turn the key. So I was stuck in a grocery store parking lot. I sprayed lots of WD40 into the lock. Dumped it in, nearly. And then, 3 minutes later, like magic... ignition turned, key came right out.

Get some Aero-Kroil and spray in there..it will loosen up the tumblers. Mine became difficult to remove and I did this and it loosened it up now the keys goes in and out effortlessly.

take the bike to a cobble stone road, lay the bike on its left side, take a BFH and hit the key (not the housing) hard, jump up and down on the gas tank.

Now take the bike, lay it on its right side, pour lighter fluid on the rear tire and light it.
If all the above will not loosten the key, tie the bike to the bumper of your 57 chevy and drag it down the road 400 to 500 miles, drop in an envelope and return to Harley Davidson, 405 SA drive, Bumfuk, North Carolina, 10101.

Hope this helps,

Agreed your tumblers have probably locked up.

I would:

1) Spray a good lube like AeroKroil in there and let it sit for a while.

2) If the key still does not come out, remove the igntion module from the bracket, and bang it back and forth on something like a 2x4 wrapped in a soft cloth....the goal is to free the stuck tumbler and allow the lube to get into every little internal pocket in the tumbler mechanism.
