Default Peanut style, large capacity???

My buddy has a 2007 Nightster. Its fuel injected of course. He is looking for a high capacity gas tank that still looks like the traditional Sportster style peanut tank. He insists there is one thats 4.5 gallons, but I have looked and looked and found nothing. Now, it doesn't matter if we are talking an EFI or a carb tank, because he would switch to carb in a second if thats what it took to get the tank on. He refuses to use the stock 4.5 tank off a Custom and claims the only reason he own a Sporty is because of the peanut style gas tank. So please help if you can. Is there a high capacity peanut style Sportster gas tank that will fit over the wide back bone of the late model EFI Sportys?

Not that I'm aware of. The "high capacity" peanut tank is the 3.3 gallon one. The original is only 2.2 gallons.

You could have someone custom fab up one for you, but it wouldn't be cheap.

There's a larger EFI Sportster tank (4.5 I think) that will swap straight over but it doesn't really look like his stock tank.

I had one sitting here a few months ago. Took a peanut and widened it for a friend. Lot of work went into it, but came out nice.

Do you have a link? I didn't think Paughco had any tanks that accomodate a fuel pump. I'd be interested in seeing one. I chop alot of Paughco tanks.

But...if he's going with a carb swap simply for a tank swap I think that would be a little excessive. He could modify any tank & keep the EFI.

Sounds like your buddy is a bit off if you know what I mean LOL! If he wants a carbed bike then get one-don't tear off the EFI just to have a larger tank. I don't think the peanot would look good any bigger than 3.3, but that's just me. The 4.5 tank from a custom is not bad looknig and if you take the center trim off it cleans up nice. I mean look at the new 883 Super Low.

The 04 to 06 ones are super expensive. Definitely not 186.95! And no EFI tanks.
