I've been using a backpack for the last 30 years. When I first started riding, I couldn't afford saddlebags but I did have a couple of small canvas backpacks.

Now, I wouldn't trust saddle bags. At work, I have to leave my bike out on the street where there's a lot of "homeless" and "convict" traffic. While nobody (other than tourists) has messed with my bike yet (including my detachable windshield and backrest), I just have this nagging suspicion that an unlocked bag would be an invitation for somebody to check out the contents.

Loads of space, slot for laptop, front strap to keep it in place and I loosen up the straps so the bag rests on the back of my seat.

Chromebags have an excellent reputation and look pretty sharp. You might consider a messenger bag versus a back pack. I've ridden with both and prefer a messenger bag. I'm currently riding with a canvas messenger bag I picked up at Target of all places and it's worked out amazingly well. Stays put off my right hip and doesn't flap around.

I use to use a back pack all the time with my old Ninja, but saddlebags are awesome. I'd rather be comfortable when riding, wearing a back pack just isn't comfortable.

If I didn't have bags I'd still be sporting the pack.

I'm no homo. I store my school books, headphones, pens, cell phone, etc all up my *** when I ride.

/sarcasm

Of course I use a backpack!

i rock the Base910 with various other attachments as needed. thing is super comfy and and totally modular so you can add/subtract more compartments as needed.

I ride in a backpack all the time to work. Between DC and Baltimore a lot too. No big deal.

As for the fuel can, fold a piece of tin foil up, put it in a ziplock bag and duct tape the bag around the can. The foil can be formed into a funnel and wont take up any extra room. Or use a paper funnel, whatever.

When I first got my bike, I didn't have a way to carry stuff so I got one. When I got my saddlebag, I quit using it. But, there's been time I wish I had it.

Lightbulb can.t juggle so..................

I carry a gal jug of water to work daily an it just won't fit in the bags. I hardly care what anyone thinks it looks like as that gallon of ice water is so good when the temp is 90+ outside and closer to 120 in the yard dog I'm sitting in.
