Default S.E. air cleaner on 06 custom

I just recently installed a S.E. stage 1 air cleaner on my 1200 Custom, I know after reading a bit about this ac online it may not be the best choice opposed to the big sucker and some others, anyways I bought it before alot of reasearch so please go easy on me it will prob be replaced soon..... anyway the stock air cleaner backing plate had spots for 2 hoses to plug into, 1 from the carb and the other from a "can" under the bike, with the S.E. back plate there are no spots for these hoses, what should i do with them, I was going to drill some holes to put these back in place is this appropriate?? any and all advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

J

It should have all of the provisions for the conversion without any drilling. The instructions are somewhat confusing however, it will work just fine.

I personally want to change the "Ham Can" look of the stock AC with the S&S AC, but the SE AC is a good AC - why do you think it's not?

I don't recall what I did with that hose, but it didn't require any drilling.

I wouldn't sweat the air cleaner selection. You did fine. The performance differences between the aftermarket high flow selections are not statistically significant for the majority of riders. Someone will undoubtedly comment about some exception but they are just that, exceptions. Without connecting your bike to a Dynometer, I would argue there would be no noticable performance difference between the five top selling high flow cleaner kits. The SEAC will do you just fine.

The can under the bike is part of the CA emissions stuff. As far as connecting the hoses, I would first suggest to double check the instructions to see if there are specific footnotes for CA bikes. Those would address how to connect those hoses. If you don’t find anything there I would ask your dealer service department. Show and tell always works better then words so if you can take the backing plates and hoses (better still the bike and everything) to show them, I’m sure they could give you a quick answer and get you rolling ASAP.

If it’s not feasible to ask the dealer, I’d suggest taking a few pictures if you can and posting them in this thread. It’s a lot easier to help with pictures and diagrams.

Good luck.

did you have to re-jet the carb after putting the SE AC on? Have you checked the plugs to see if it is leaning out?

Kinda thought it was CA emmision stuff.....here are pics of the hoses at least and the said "can" also notice the old a/c back. The solid more sturdy plasticy hose comes from the "can" and the other from the bottom of the carb. Nothing in instructions differentiating this kit from a CA kit or talking about emissions.

Bensonjv, yes thanks for the advice about asking the dealership, this was my next move, ill just pop in and show the problem on one of there floor models.....easiest!

..but in the meantime some pics for your something

Now that I see those pics, I think this is a CA issue. There have been discussion on here before about this. The S/E isn't specific to CA (At least I don't think), but that extra hose is. I only had one hose to deal with, and it wasn't a problem.

I don't know...it's late and I'm under some self adminstered pain killers (gotta love Dr. Jack Daniel) after a trip to the orthopedic Dr. today. But if we keep bumping this, a definative answer will surface for you.

Got me stumped. Sure the hoses go someplace. My experience with carbs is non-CA. Didn't have the hoses to contend with. My only CA bike is FI.

Somebody here knows. If not, your ace in the hole is the dealer.
