Default School a noob in sportster options

Hey guys. I recently sold my 98 trans am and am sitting on a little bit of cash. My first impulse was to go out and buy a 1000cc crotch rocket, but that would leave the R6 ive got just sitting and rotting.

Better option - Get a cruiser

Better better option - make it a harley (old roommate had a velusia.... no thanks)

So here is my question: ive been looking at sportstersand even within a specific class they all seem to look very different.

I know... that is the point. But I am having trouble predicting what I am going to get. I could link a few and talk about the specific looks I am interested in. Maybe it is camera angle... maybe option based.

Vs

it is subtle... but the first pic looks like it has a much more distinctive angle and sharper slope to the tank relative to the seat. I like that. The 2nd bike looks flatter and longer.

Tanks...
VS.

first bike's tank looks like several flat pieces of metal welded together with the edges rounded. That's cool if you're into that sort of thing. I prefer bike 2 with what looks like a much more oganic shape to the tank.

This is gunna sound dumb, but I'm more after a stripped down sort of look than a decked out kind of deal. I'm into smaller, lighter looking profiles. The 883 iron is getting there if i excuse the tank ( http://thekneeslider.com/archives/20...dson-iron-883/ )

basically, I like the steep angle of the tank, a more organic tank and rear fender shape, and a stripped down sort of look.

are there specific years or options I should be on the look for as I start looking? p.s. the vrod is about the hottest thing i have found, but they are all listing for about 2k over book from what I see so that may be quite a search.

dealerships are worse.... according to bluebook i should be able to find an 02 or 03 for ~5k.

but either way... Im just curious what the options are to get these different looks. This guy has the kind of look im after

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/motor...-for-sale.html

simple, black and chrome, and you kind of sit "in" the bike... or at least it looks that way. are these just lowering kits or fork bags that get this? if it is a simple mod I could just get the 1200 and do the work myself this summer

I like the first minus the windshield. Peanut tanks just make the sportster for me.

tl;dr
How do I make a sportster look like a vrod?
Don't try to make a Sportster look like a V-Rod. Or a Softail, or anything else. If you want a V-Rod, wait for the right deal and get one.

that wasnt the point. there are specific aspects of the bike that I see in the 1200s. easiest example from someone lacking the terminology was to compare to the vrod.

deep seat, high tank, rounded edges? savvy?

From your original post it sounds like a 1200 custom might be the trick. The nightsters and iron's have that stripped down look but the customs have more of the tank style you like. Should be able to find a good deal on a used one.
