Right. My 1200 RPM idle runs 1190-1250 or so, and my 950 RPM idle is 940-1000 for the most part.

As stated above, kill sw has nothing to do with hi idle. Hi idle is caused by shutting down with either the kill sw or the ignition before the bike has reached normal idle.

My advice: Quit using the kill sw unless you eventually want a dead battery. At some point when using the kill sw, you will forget to turn off the ignition. Come back an hour later and guess what?

I would rather forget the kickstand than kill the battery via using the kill sw. I can always pick the sob up and start it.

Don't see that happening in my case for more than a few mins. I ALWAYS pull the key and usually even lock steering. My key is relocated so that I can't turn it off unless in neutral or using the kill switch. I use neutral now then put back in gear to park. No big deal, but all I know is that as soon as those service guys killed the bike with the kill switch 2-4 times, my idle instantly shot back up to 1200. Seriously, you'd rather drop your bike than to replace / recharge the battery? BS.

Well, as long as you brought it up, since 1968, I have missed the kick stand 3 times. Over that period, I have observed a couple dozen instances where some one has left the ignition sw on, dead battery, 20, 50, 100 miles sw of BF Egypt. Like I said, I can always pick it up and it will run.

The kill sw is a "kill" sw mandated by some safety oriented govt agency to protect you if a running bike is laying on top of you, and your hand is still on the handle bar you can "kill" the engine. It has no other purpose.

In many race applications, the rider must be tethered to a "kill" sw so that if the rider falls off the bike the engine will kill. But, that is another issue.

Very.interesting. I checked mine. About 1250
I followed the reset as outlined. No change. Also the fuel pump turns on each time.

Then you most likely aren't getting the reset procedure down quite right or your bike is different somehow.

Once again, key OFF and switch on RUN. Turn key ON all the way for 8 seconds then rapidly switch to OFF for 4 seconds, then ON for 8, OFF for 4, ON for 8, OFF for 4, ON for 8, OFF for 10 seconds or so, so that the fuel pump will turn on next time your turn it on to start.

The pump only runs the first cycle because the 4 seconds it is off isn't enough for it to trigger a reset on it. Try again and let us know.

When you guys are dealing with this high idle, how long does it stay like that? Iv noticed mine does it every now and then, but then returns to normal "low idle" after a few seconds.

It always starts with the higher idle till it warms up or figures out that it is already warmed up. This is a persistent high idle issue in my case.
