Default New 883L Owner

I just bought this 2009 883L yesterday. I found it on a local Craigslist ad. It is bone stock with only 400 miles! My main motivation for buying was to have a bike for my daughter to learn on and go on rides with me. I have always like buzzing around on friends Sportsters so I will enjoy it too.

First impressions are good, but I must say the rear shocks are the worst I have ever experienced. My 56 FLH rigid frame has a better ride than this! So the first mod will be shocks. I want to raise the bike up a bit for better ground clearance and ride improvement! And I don't want to break the bank. Any suggestions would be welcome.

If you get a better seat, that ride will be very much improved. Yes, the shocks aren't very good, but it's the seat that makes the rear shocks seem so poor. I would do seat first, and progressive shocks next.

The seat is terrible. I think a couple of folded shop towels would be an improvement!

An extra inch and air ride... http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHROME-Low-P...sories&vxp=mtr

On my '07 883L...

Mustang Tripper seat is still low but much better than the stocker...

Nice looking sportster. I basically have the 1200 version of that with a 4.3 gal tank.

I second the advice on the seat. I plan to replace my rear shocks as well.

I don't recommend the air ride. I have a bike with that, and it's great for floating down the interstate. But, it's not good for handling.

I just adjusted the stock shocks for max preload. It is much better now. Not great, but at least my fillings aren't falling out of my teeth!

It's a 883L, not a 883R...it's never going to be a handling bike.

I have the Sundowner seat and it's a big improvement. I plan to add Progressive 412 shocks. If your daughter is tall enough and wants more clearance than get the 12.5" shocks. But if she's having any issues with flat footing then get the stock length. It will still be a vast improvement.

hi there i have an 07 883L one of my first mods was progressive 412 rear shocks and spring kit for the front . WOW what an improvement it was like a whole different bike it smoothed out the ride was a softer ride , really good over bumps and the fronf was solid and tracked and handeled superb . you might do a search on this forum about progressive products , i think a small investment in them will be wise . it was one of the best things i did for me and my ride
