Not really. Better airflow helps in high RPM range when cylinder fill rate drops because intake valve is not open for long enough. Since stock Sporty runs in open loop mode when more power is needed it won't get the optimal mixture to take advantage of better air filter.
Well, if you do the whole deal... intake + exhaust + fuel mapping adjustments, then you will see improvements. Doing any one by itself at any time wont do much for you.
K&N is reusable and flows better even when used for a while.
It will not give you more HP, not on an EFI bike.
For performance you should do intake and exhaust and fuel remapping, all same time.
I don't know anything about them, but a lot of people are running the Xied's to get the air/fuel mixture back to about 13:1. After a quick search, I came up with this recent thread: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...9753-xied.html
Ask around. They seem to work very well for about 100 bucks. You'll need an exhaust, full or slip-on mufflers, that will get the spent gasses out better. More air in, you need more air out - and the correct air to fuel ratio. Figure Machine is an awesome company. Any of their air cleaners, like the XL Flow Stage 2 you mentioned, will flow more than enough air.

Reason: nunya
Nothing you do with stock ECM and O2 sensors (Xied, eliminators, whatever) will affect the mixture in open loop mode.
So the answer to your question - do I get more HP by just replacing the air filter - is still NO.
