Default Singing electronic fuel pump

Hello everybody, new to the forum here. I have a '08 XL1200C. Bought it new and shortly after the warranty expired I started to notice a high pitch sound, it wasn't there all the time, and then sometimes it would get really loud. But when ever I took it to the dealer it went away so they could never hear it.
During the years I have figured out that it is the fuel pump. When it gets above 95 deg outside and there isn't any shade it starts quietly. The hotter it gets the loader it sings, at 106 deg it sounds like a turbine.
There are NO performance issues, when I take it to the dealer and they bring it inside where it's air conditioned, it gets quieter-will shut up even. When I put in cool freash gas, it shuts up.
For the cost of a new fuel pump, no performance issues and the few months of the year that has this kind of temperature, and no will qarrantee that it won't start singing again, i let it sing when its hot. My question: Does anyone else have this issue?

Yep - common issue. Factory says it's not a problem unless the pump fails. Think of the noise as a desirable option telling you the fuel pump is priming. Cheers, RR

My buddy had an S10 Chevy that sounded like a jet, the pump made so much noise. I guarantee that's not a good sound, and it will fail like his. I think it's overheating that causes the noise. They need to be in liquid for them to cool properly, so don't drive around a lot with a near empty tank.

I don't care what the dealer says, I'd get it replaced if it's under warranty (guess not). Otherwise, keep her full of gas and don't worry about it. Really not much else besides spending money when it eventually fails, could be years, months, days, minutes.

Actually..., when it has a full tank of gas - it's at its worse. If it's full then I can't put cooler fuel into it. I ride it daily, rain or shine and I live and work in the frying pan, north Dallas, TX area. Heat DEFINATLY is the cause of the problem. When I start it in the morning, it's fine. At lunch, as long as the temps stay below 95 deg. it's not a problem. But a 5pm, good lord the looks I get. IF and only IF I could find some shade to park it under, then when its out of the direct sun. The fuel dosn't get heated up. Like I said not a single performance issue. And for the cost of a new pump that may sing or not sing again, it can sing.

What I want is for Harley Davidson to fix this problem..., I love my bike but I would rather it not sing.

How about covering your tank with a thick white terrycloth towel. I do that to my ice chest when camping (helps to soak it with water big time!) and it keeps my food cold for so much longer. The white will reflect the sun and not absorb much heat.

Could be a hose. There's a hose attached to the pump in the tank. Sometimes they end up with a pin hole in them and causes it to sing. I remember reading something about that a month or so ago.
