ok well i've removed the ac and had a look around.... seems that the mix screw is accessible, no bung or anything blocking it. however the ac is by the look of it a white/beige colour with black surround, stamped with hd. The backplate is still there as well, black plastic one.

My assumption: your bike runs well.

I'm not too familiar with the H-D SE A/C (which you might have) since I have an S&S A/C Does your A/C visually look like the stock A/C? Others who are familiar with the SE A/C may be able to chime in to help. The jet sizes would be the best indicator, but what mileage are you getting compared to an average stock 883? Most stage 1's will knock a few mpg's off simply because the larger jet sizes allow more fuel to be burned.

Remember, you can change the pipes (or slip-ons) without having to open the intake, but if you open the intake you must change the pipes (or slip-ons) or the bike will run poorly because the increased burnt gases can't escape quickly enough. Some folks will simply change the pipes (or slip-ons) to get the better sound and call that a Stage 1 mod (falsely).

Slightly odd, but it sounds as if the airbox is stock, so you don't have what most of us regard as a 'stage 1'. Assuming you are indeed in South Wales you could contact Matt for a SE or similar free-flow air filter. He is also an S&S dealer, so you could even have a fancy S&S one!
