Default Anyone engineered a lay-down solo backrest?

I've thought it would be great to have a lay-down solo backrest for long rides. Something I could pop up after I'm on the bike, and lay back down easily before getting off of it.

Anyone done any back-of-napkin doodles along these lines already?

I have the QD rack, so I'm thinking something that could attach to the QD rack would be great. Maybe I need to do some mockups this winter...

I'd love to have one too. I hate that mustang doesn't sell an addon backrest for their non backrest solo seats.

Look at the Corbin site. They make a seat called "rumble" and has a folding (lay down) back rest.
Only issue, its passenger, so you would have to find a way to swap it around.
Or maybe call Corbin and see if they have something in the works already...

I've always thought it'd be neat to have one that locks up in position as a solo backrest, or down flat on the fender as a pillion pad.

Mustang makes several seat models with removable/folding backrests.

The problem I have with a solid mounted backrest is I can't seem to get on/off the bike without sweeping my leg across where the backrest would be, I just don't bend that well. Well, I *have* done it, but I'm sure I look like Elaine from Seinfeld dancing in the attempt. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

The Mustang backrest folds forward to lay flat on the seat.

That sounds like a passenger backrest though.

EDIT: I just read the Mustang website and it does talk about the driver backrest lying flat. How does that work? It can't fold forward onto the seat you're about to sit on can it? Maybe I can find a video on YouTube.

Yes, it folds forward onto the driver's seat.

This video is of a passenger backrest, but the driver's backrest works the same way.
