On my '06 883/1200 conversion, I changed from the 28T to the 30T, it made a difference. Then I changed to the 1200 primary gearing. The combination put me right where I wanted my bike to be, much nicer on the highway. I now can cruise at around 3200 RPM, instead of the 4000RPM I was trying to cruise at with the 883 ratio. I lost a lot of that race around the city zippy-ness, though.
Each tooth on the sprocket is worth about 3 1/2% IIRC. So if you changed to a 30T from your 29T, your RPM would drop about 3.5%; if you change to a 32T it'd drop about 10%. AFAIK the 32T would require you to grind off some stuff, and may require you to change your belt too. And recalibrate your speedo.
Wanted to know if anyone has lowered their RPM's with a larger front sprocket?
I had the transmission pulley on my 07 XL1200L changed from 29T to 30T (Harley part # 40380-04). I wanted to lower the revs/vibration at freeway speeds, so for that purpose it works for me.
So a 30T is a good overall sprocket to gain a lil more comfyness at higher speeds but not loose too much off the bottom? (Iron 883, stock motor no plans for 1200, no 2up)
It will definitely help. I'll be going to a 30T most likely as well. Long tour rides were getting a bit numbing for me , even with better grips. Plus the engine noise will hopefully subside a bit so I can here myself slightly more lol. Maybe mileage will even improve slightly.
