Help, Constantly running out of gas

i had a CBR1000 once with a 6 gallon tank. it said empty and the low fuel light would come on at 60 miles, could ride a few more days before going to reserve. that bike did suck on fuel mileage though.. i'm only getting 36mpg on my EG. when you run out, are you putting 2 gallons back in? could it still be half full when the light comes on.. over 40 miles on one gallon isn't that bad..

I am sure there is something simple going on here! As j1mmy says, how much are you putting in the tank when you refill it? We get a steady trickle of queries like this about gas tanks and mileage and most come down to getting familiar with the bike.

I only seem to be able to get about 1.5 gallons into my 2.2 tank. That's to the bottom of the filler hole. Still get 50 mpg.

I wounder if the OP is stranded out on the beltway or if he figured out he was overlooking something obvious?
