For a ny state inspection do they require to have certain switches on your handle bar specifically? I plan on locating run, kill high low beam on toggles under my seat. The handle bar will still have horn and turn signal toggle.
I was just wondering if the ny state inspection requires any of those switches to be placed onto the handlebar.
It does not state weather they need to be on the handlebars only that they need to be present and functional. That said, many people relocate there horn switch on there cars as well. I would say you should be fine. You can also call the dmv with questions. And the full regulations are available from the dmv website.
You should be good, I have never heard of any issues with switch placement. Like ewoods said, call the dmv, or even the inspection shop that you will be using.
The regs do not specify a location for the switches so you should be fine. However, I have found some inspection stations and inspectors who are not fully familiar with the regs who will balk when faced with unconventional or non-traditional setups. If that happens just go someplace else.
Yeah we have a jap bike dealer, that brings out the decibel reader and everything for a Harley inspection. Gave me a hard time, and I only have Screamin Eagle slip ons. Needless to say that I don't go there anymore, even though its the closest place.
I have put in a call to a inspector I know and he says where the switches are makes no difference. He couldnt tell me if my inspection sticker can go somewhere other than the front fork.
Hah thanks a bunch man, went out and got some sweet mini switches already.

My local harley shop has a letter posted on his wall from NYS DMV. He wrote them for clarification on the law of sticker placement. The letter says
NYS law states the inspection sticker can go on any permanent frame structure of the bike as long as its visible. I get mine put on the font of the frame down behind the forks kind of by the horn.
