Default my first harley - first mod advice

So I'm settling on my first Harley 883 and picking up on Friday. I want to think or jump ahead on mods. It has the screaming eagle intake but when I looked closer at it the other day...almost looked like a regular white filter inside the housing. I could be wrong...but what makes it a screaming eagle intake besides the cover plate?

I guess I'm wondering if I should get a head start and buy a k&n or?? I know they have filters that either fit in the housing or they have the cone ones or circle ones. Any advice on that?

Once thats done i wanna get ordering on tach, reverse my mirriors and maybe new handlebars. I was also thinking and liking the whole coil relocation. Any advice on ignition upgrades? I for sure want the better wires (red ones) from dkcustom.

Thanks as always guys.

I would say to spend some of that dough on good riding gear (helmet, gloves, jacket, etc.) and then ride the bike for a while to figure out what you want to change to make it better for you.

I think first mods should be fit and comfort. Seat, handlebars, maybe controls.

I can appreciate that, but I already have gear from my last bike I owned.

I would agree, it is always better to ride the bike for a bit first and take your time because there is thousands of ways to fix them up and instead of just buying stuff now then down the road replacing it with something you like better, you can save a ton of $ by taking your time.

The SE high flow intake allows air to enter all around the rear of the front cover where as the Stock cover only has an opening in front about two inch by two inch. The SE High Flow allows more air into the intake - so if you prefer the stock intake look it is part of a Stage 1.

Ok so what about a tach at least on a 2007 883L or XL (not sure which it is)

I wanted to get this:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...-10-6718207--1

However its insanely priced. If this offer took something lower...would this work?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-Harley-...7f20c3&vxp=mtr

Is it really as easy as plugging it into something???

if you want to keep the cost down on a tach, how about a Microtach?

I agree with the guys, you need to spend some time with the bike and get a feel for how you want her. We all have a vision in our heads, but once you own the vehicle things change a bit. I have modded many vehicles and what I ended up doing once I had the vehicle over what I thought I was going to do was differant each time, sure some of the plans stayed the same. The SE high flow filter is white-not red like a K&N because the SE filter is oilless and the K&N is olded and the oil has red dye in it.

fair enough. So it's better performance wise anyways to stick with the SE rather than k&n?

chugger the harley tach kit works very well and i think for a new sportsters rider it is a very good first mod. most new sportsters guys don't keep the rpm's nearly as high as they should be to run well. these motors like to rev!. look on ebay for that kit however. i bought a brand new on for $150. you have to remove the gas tank and change out
the top handle bar clamp because your stock speedo mount is built into your top clamp on the nightster. this is the clamp part # 56115-95. after the tank is off it does just plug in. tanks come off nightster real easy. no need to drain them.

s.e. air cleaner just allows more air into the engine. filter is still cheap. i wouldn't buy k&n filter until you know for sure your not going to want a new aftermarket air cleaner. it will work fine as it is.

i would save your money and maybe get the tach, and either a thundermax or power vision. they are the building blocks for any engine mods you will want to do and will make even a stock engine run so much better.

other than those suggetions i say hold off for the first few months and just ride and enjoy your new toy. the things you really want to add will start to become apparent as you ride the nightster. CONGRATS!
