check out bykas for some spoke wraps....easy way to make your bike custom.
either that or send the spokes out for chrome and get it relaced or send them for powdercoat....I use a polish from surf city...metal polish...best chrome polish I have ever found. I have almost every other brand and nothing comes out as nice as the surf city stuff. easy to apply and easy to take off. spokes are not the most fun to polish and it takes a long time to do. easiest way is to take the wheels right off the bike and grab a seat and have at it....on the bike is much harder going side to side and constantly spinning the wheel and so on....but once they are clean make sure you clean them often and polish them. if you keep them polished they are easy to maintain.
6.5 hours? ^^^^ lmao. It takes me about an hour to get them near spotless, chrome or no chrome. Brake dust or rust.
I'm a spoke freak. 1. That probably (need pics) isn't rust but caked brake dust. Some guys use a detailer's wheel acid or Ez off oven cleaner for the tough spots and immediately rinse. Scotchbrite pads are available for dremels and also make a thin pad (which does the same as laces but covers more area).
A semi Abrasive metal polish works to loosen and the Scotch pad will remove it. a good quality toilet brush helps get the grit out of the nooks.
Hot brake dust sticks to everything including chrome. Hope this helps. (careful w the Ez off..... remove wheel, golves etc.....)
Give this stuff a try - "Naval Jelly". I've used it before on other rusty things and it works really well. I'm not sure about letting it get on paint though.
