Question On Starting Problem
I started having a starting problem back in the fall. If the bike sat for 2 or more days I would have to crank throttle at least 10 times or more to start then it would run no problems.
It has been sitting since early November somewhat warm day today so I tried starting it cranked the throttle 30 times didn't try to fire. I had to use starting fluid fired right up and ran no problems.
Once she starts it runs like a top.
I have no time today to search for the problem anyone have any ideas?
1994 883xlh stock motor I rebuilt the carb 2 years ago jetted 45/170 open air cleaner not stock. Possible rebuild carb again?
TIA

I just pull out the enrichener **** and hit the start button, no twisting the throttle at all. Perhaps you flooded it with the throttle twisting (accelerator pump squirts). My 1991 FSM says just pull the enrichener and hit it. Works for me. This is for cold starts. Warm starts I just hit the starter and she just fires up, no throttle needed either.

I would make sure your enrichener cable is pulling out all the way. If you are twisting that many times you are flooding the carb. Sounds to me like you need a new choke cable.
I will check the cable though.

Your accelerator pump is not functioning. 10 whacks and you don't smell gas fumes?, the pump seal is shot (torn, dried out, or pump shaft not moving). I have to pump 4-6 times to start my EVO when it hasn't been ridden recently. A little flooding never stopped a Harley from starting, no gas will!

+1 on the accelerator pump.
To check it without tearing into the carb, remove your A/C cover and look into the carb throat as your twist the throttle open. You should see fuel squirt from the brass tube sticking up in the throat opening.

You should not have to pump the throttle to start the bike. The bike should start with the throttle closed, with the enrichener pulled out.
The fact that you had to pump the throttle to start the engine points toward a problem with the enrichener.
But since you say now that even pumping the throttle does not help, it sounds like you also have an accel pump problem.
Time to remove the carb, clean and inspect.
