07' 883R questions
I chance upon the following picture of how i wanna my 883R to look like. If anyone could tell me where i could get my hands on these black ceramic beauties? (exhaust) Any concern with tuning? (Do I need to get some kind of powerpak?)
Many thanks!

That's completely too funny man. That is my scoot in the picture. The exhausts is made up of
standard header pipes with Screamin' Eagle slash cut mufflers installed.
The mufflers were originally chromed as they did not offer a black pipe at the
time for an '06 R. They were powder coated mat black and have, so far, proven to be very durable.
Harley may now if fact be making black pipes for the '07 model.
No special tuning will be required particularly in light of the EFI on the '07 models.
Here she is after the work.

The Local HD distributor called me today and they mentioned they managed to squeeze the very last "orange" unit for me. Shipment should arrive in May and my 883 could be on the roads by June.
Few things DO interest me though. Your Black exhaust for sure and your pair of Ohlins. Are they 883 specific? whats the improvement over the stocks?
Hey Terry! You the man! I hope you could share with me tips on what/why to modify the 883R.

Installing the Ohlins and beefing up the front suspenders are right up there with hopping up the motor in terms of performance enhancements. Ohlins or your Ohlins/Harley dealer will want to know your weight in order to choose the right pieces.
I think the most important thing in modifying any of these scoots is that you get what's right for you... not somebody else. Spend a little time with your scooter before you decide to have your way with it. Decide what you like and what might prove to be better for you. If i were not constantly scooting the twisty stuff, i really don't think i would havedropped serious coin on the Ohlins suspenders. You can get some fine stuff from Progressive or Works. If your preferred riding style is crusin' easy, i wouldn't be looking to hot rod the motor... that 883 is is a fine lump and will last longer than you will.
I made the changes i did to my scoot because i have owned a Sporty in the past and had a strong idea of what i wanted to acheive with this one. I really wanted to create a Hot Rod.
I like looking at rides that give some insight ... however small ... into the people that ride tham. I think that's where all the fun is.
Glad your dealer is coming through for you man. It's a fine, fine bike.

Anyone fitted a steering damper on the new 07' 883? Would it better the handling?
Steering dampers are designed to control head shake... the kind that lead to tank slappers.
This usually takes place in light, powerful sportbikes with steering geometry of a sporting nature. The front end gets light when accelerating over bumps
and begins to oscillate... the vibrations grow in intensity... wrenching the bars from your hands and next thing you know you're catching air.
Stock Sporty's are too heavy and underpowered to produce these characteristics.
Where the steering damper can make a difference is when you're looking to do the ton or better
and the front wheel begins to do the wobble. If you're running a 21 inch hoop up front, that wobble is going to be even greater.
The damper will help quiet the front end down and buy you the stability you want to keep cranking on the loud grip.
Day to day... a damper on a Sporty will do not much at all.
