Default Chaps or no chaps?

As a newbie to HD, just curious as to how many of you wear chap's. If so, all the time, some of the time, long trips only, etc?

Not sure if I want to get a set, but thought I'd pose the question anyways.

Thanks and motor on!

I'm short, sochaps make throwing my leg over more difficult. It has to be freezing before I wear them.

What I do have, and I LOVE them, is "Leather Legs". They only come up to a little past your knee. They zip and snap for easy on and off. Keeps the rocks, large bugs, etc. from smarting your shins....and keeps wind chill down on cooler mornings. I wear mine in the summer too and I never get hot in them...even in NM. I never ride a distance without them.

I have a set and like them.
Here in Michgan, riding days would limited from October thru May without them! Chaps make a tone of difference in cool/cold weather.(Actually, just took mine of after getting to work- 28def farh).
And of course, they save on time and discomfort while doing the wire brush thing in the ER.[:@]
Cheap, protective, and cuts the wind..... definetly a winner.

I have been riding since the late 50's, sort of a T and Jeans rider. I have full leathers and wear during cooler days or wet weather.

brgtr3,

I see you are in MN... I would imagine they would be REQUIRED equipment up there in the frozen tundra.

Down here in the (mostly) sunny south, I only wear them below 55 degrees. You see people wear them around here even in the summer. It's a personal choice. Some MAY do it for safety, some may do it to make a "fashion" statement. Guys who wear shorts and chaps.. well IMO.. that's just wrong![sm=noooo.gif]

I have a set of full leathers and have been wearing them all the time. The idea of ever getting road rash is really offensive to me. I intend to wear mine always. However, I just got my bike in December and it's been cool and is warming up. Will just depend how much I can stand them once it really heats up here this summer in Hot 'Lanta. I hear though they make a huge difference in keeping your hide intact should you ever go down.

However, my husband has a leather jacket and boots, but other than a helmet, that's all the protection he wears or intends to. Personal choice.

They're a life saver when its cold. Should probably wear them more but it gets pretty hot here in the summer.

I know it gets hot in HOTlanta in the summers. You might want to look into some of these for when things heat up. http://www.dragginjeans.com/
