KBB doesn't really have a good value on Private Party sales on motorcycles. So with trade in value in good condition it books at $4645 and retail at dealer is $6375. When you guys say 50% value which number are you referring to?

So $4000 for this bike is too much?

Scrap value. $1/lb would be generous. I don't believe the 100mph manure

Just checked, and AZ is one of the states that does not re-issue a clear title after being fixed & inspected. Yes, they only issue a re-built title. Soooooo, taking that into account, if you plan on keeping the bike forever, I'd be say maybe upwards of $5K.......But if you just plan on having it for a few years & then selling, I'd say $2500 tops.

The problem is selling it in the future.
Many Harley dealers will not take it.
Many bike shops will not take it because a loan might present a problem.
Many individuals may not take it because insurance might be a concern.
Some shops think it presents a liability concern because if someone crashes then they want to blame the shop.
It really limits the pool of customers because only a small percentage wake-up and say ...Dam i really want a branded title bike.
Someone who has mechanical ability and is looking to keep the bike forever would have a different idea of value...If trade-in is $4,645 for a clean title then you are really looking at about 4 grand...but you will need to be OK with waiting when trying to sell, explaining, explaining, explaining, patiently waiting until someone finally low ***** you on price.
When the difference is $1,000 to $2,000 some folks do not believe the savings is worth the branded paperwork...they make for a good purchase but only for a small group of people.

How well do these bikes retain their value?

Is it a better deal to buy 08-09 nightster with less than 5k miles, clean title for about $6000-7000? If I needed to resell it in few months to a year due to moving, will I be taking a hit as well on resell value?

Thanks.

from what you've said here I'd guess the bike was stolen for parts & the rest dumped & the guys insurance low balled him so he kept it & fixed it himself & had to re-title it as it'd been reported stolen & recorded as a total loss by insurance Co due to cost to replace what all was missing. what ever the case is he's not giving you the whole story. You wouldn't need to re-title it if only tire & seat was stolen & a few dents. Check with the DMV that re-titled it & ask them why it should be in the computer system. I wouldn't buy it until you check if your ins co will cover it & only if you plan to keep it, because nobody will believe your story when you go to re-sell it without proof. $3k tops & then only if you can insure it & it runs as good as you say

If you are concerned about resell and getting money back you are in for a world of dissapointment. You may be able to get your money back but that variables to that are endless. You may end up making a small profit or a huge loss. Depends on so many things. Plus a good buyer can sniff out a desperate seller quickly. I would hold off until you are more permanent in work locations or be prepared to lose money. Not saying you will but odds are against you.
