I'm in the process of buying an Iron that has had a 1200 conversion from a HD dealership when new before being collected by the previous owner. I'm buying from a very reputable dealership in Scotland. I have emailed them this query but waiting for a response. I'd like to know whether this is a Stage 2 conversion not a stage 1 as they say in the description. Here's the description:
Harley Davidson XL1200 Iron about as cool as bikes get. H-D 883 Iron converted to 1200 Iron by West Coast Harley. Comes with: H-D leather tool roll, H-D 1 master cylinder cover, handle bar mounted clock, H-D mustang solo seat, H-D engine casing cover, H-D leather side bag. Stage 1 upgrade including: Screamin Eagle filter, V&H short shot pipes, H-D ECU flash upgrade. All work carried out by West Coast Harley. Deal includes unused: XL883 barrels, pistons, heads, exhausts, engine covers and seat. Bike has just 3,500 miles logged.
From reading various threads on here, if the deal includes the unused barrels, pistons, heads, this points to a stage 2 doesn't it?
The Harley 1200 kit converts an 883 to 1200 using all bone stock 1200 parts, so you should expect to collect a large box full of stuff that won't balance on the back seat! Whoever bought it new had money to burn!
Value over there means probably double the value here. HDs are so expensive compared to the US. Think you can get a new Iron for $7500 or something over there. Here it's more like $12,000 for the exact same bike!
The fact that it comes with the 883 heads tells you that it is a stage 1. The stage 1 kit replaces everything with stock 1200 equipment. The stage 2 kit doesnt replace the heads. It comes with cams designed to compliment the stock 883 heads and produce more power with the larger displacement.
