I just took my bike to run an errand. When I got to my destination I was going slow thru the parking lot and could smell an "electrical" (or plastic)burning odor. When I go tback home, I smelled it in the garage and kept the bike running in neutral. I located a stream of smoke. It appears to be coming up right under where it says SIX SPEED and between the exhaust. I put something between the two and it does NOT seem to be exhaust. Seems to be coming from under the SIX SPEED plate, or maybe even a mount. It seems to be more smoke when it is at idle than when I was reving it. But I can not pin point it.... any thougts?
The bike is still under warrenty, so it will head into the dealer, but I am curious as to what it could be.
You may be close to being right. I took it for another ride and came back home. It still smelled, but not as bad and I no longer see the smoke streaming out. There is still smoke, but not they way it was rusing out beofe.
you guys do't know anything !!
that is where the kanuter valve meets the muffler bearing and you know on the 09's there was a faulty flem baffle joint right there..sheesh..
There is a bundle of wires that pass under the clutch release cover (part that says "six speed") are any of them melted? If not, I would say what SP says is the cause.
I would like to hear how many days HD keeps your bike to find Nothing wrong and " re could not recreate the problem" famous line. ChaChing! Good thing its under warranty..
Put the bike up on a jack or lift. With a flashlight and mirror inspect the area carefully for anything melted or any signs of leaks. Check the air filter and cover for anything that may be leaking from it also. If you don't find anything clean the right side of the engine / transmission with some Simply Green, take it for a ride and reinspect the area. Let us know what you find, if anything.
