I don't know of a Harley that is made to run on Regular. I always use the highest octane I can get. Why spend 20 to 25K on a bike & then go cheap on fuel? Heck my brother uses an octane buster most of the time.

Sometimes, you don't have choice!
I have had to put in the 87 many times, and my bike is fine. Of course, I refill with 91 or higher octane whenever I can.
Ok since I stirred up a worms nest in the Florida Crew/patch thread, I will try to keep this easier. I have a 2011 HD UL and I have noticed increasingly an odd noise from deep in the engine. At cruising speeds (55-75) it is very noticeable but seems to be there most of the time. It is sounding like ping, I normally use regular gas but I am going try premium next time. I did add Gas treatment to the last load of full but that did not really change anything (consequently this last fill up it became more audible). I also notice at take of from stop lights- especially when it is hot there seems to be a ping/knock. the bike has about 2200 miles on it. There is not a noticeable power loss issue...just a annoying ping (ish) sound. Any ideas.
Sorry about your noisy Harley. I had an o7 SE that the engine went out. That was the first one. The second one had a bad rattle in the top end. I believed it to be the rocker arms moving back and forth. Harley Mechs said I had piston slap cuz the pistons on Harley is very short. It got so bad the bike started missing wit no error codes. Finally the engine blew. Harley's cure for the noisy engine was turn up the volune on the radio and get louder pipes and put heavier oil in the motor. My new 2011 ultra limited has noise too. Soon as the waranty is up, I'm going to have a non Harley mechanic look at it and see if they can quiet it down. They still say the rattle on all Harleys is normal and won't look at it or try to fix it. Very annoying.
