Default Murph needs a little help...?

Boy is that a loaded statement. I'm asking for it ain't I....

Anyways, i know this decision is a personal one, but i want some input from my family. So here it is.

I'm working on getting my bike the first of next year. I'm still indecisive on which model. I know I'm going with black. I just can't decide whether i want the Road King Classic or Street Glide. I have been leaning more towards the SG.

I'm not looking for anyone to make the decision for me. I was just want some input on pros and cons of each so i can take that in to consideration when i do make the purchase. I plan on taking the SG for a test ride before any decisions are made. Sorry so long. Thanks for any input.

My only advice would be to rent both for at least a day each and ride the hell out of 'em and then go with the one you like best. I'd bet a dealer would be willing to apply the rent toward the purchase. Test riding a bike down the road and back is one thing, doing a 300 mile burger run on one is a whole other ball of wax.

I really don't think you could go wrong either way. I love my RK but if I were going to trade it would either be for another RK or a SG.

Congrats either way looking forward to riding with you soon.

I like the faring and all that comes with it. A Radio/cd player are sweet to have. After riding a soft tail for years I wanted to get away from a windshield. I think the saddlebags in the SG are a bit larger than the RK classic ones.

For sure, you can't go wrong with either bike and it is certainly a personal choice.

I have zero regrets with my SG and don't see a need to ever get anything else. My other bikes always had me thinking (and wanting) about some other model.

Black is the fastest! Hee hee heee. So at least you have the correct color picked out.

Best of luck.... be sure to ride both, the longer the better.

If those are your two choices then you can't make a bad decision.

thanks for the input. both bikes are great. I'm just not sure what to look for and what to watch out for. I have heard many have had problems with fairing mounts. Is this true? Does the fairing really make a difference in steering and riding on the highway? do you really get a lot of engine noise because of the fairing...etc, etc, etc.

I like the idea of having my music and not have to plug in ear phones all the time. decisions, decisions, decisions....

Murph- I went from the RKC to my limited. I LOVED my RK, but got to a point where I was considering a detachable fairing with tunes. The earbuds gets old, and on long days I never found a set that didn't leave my ears hurting.

I LOVE having a fairing, the tunes, the gauges, and everything in front of me. With the proper windshield for your height on the SG, you will have less wind on you as well, which can come into play on windy days, the wind wears you down period.

SoFla and I were discussing this today when I went by his place, as he too went from a RKC from a limited, we both agree on the fairings being a nicer ride, and we both LOVE the upgrade we made. We also discussed, that as crazy as it seems, the limited's handle better to the both of us than our RK's did, especially at slow speeds, which is odd considering the bikes are heavier.

Like has been stated, you can't go wrong either way, and it's as much a personal preference as anything else dealing with bikes.

Good luck and can't wait until you're on 2 wheels again!

SG, no regrets. when i had my electra glide classic i loved the bags, loved the fairing. the radio was a huge part. granted mine was a 2005 but never had issues with the fairing coming loose. my next will be for sure a "fairing" bike. cant wait to see the pics murph

Default Murph's new ride

Hi Murph,

I went from a soft tail to a SG and could not believe the difference. The fairing reduces wind and affords protection. Love everything about the instruments and the CD especially. This is probably a little off the wall but in my opinion the cruise control is the one feature on my SG that I would not do without!

Had my SG one year are rode over 22M with no major problems and on original tires. Two minor warranty items was the horn and the front light harness connection came loose and had to be reconnected. They replaced the horn with an upgrade.

If I had to replace it I would do so with another SG.
