I'm leaving out on Sunday from DeLand , down us 27. Planning a stop at a campround on 41. Get some skunk ape beer and shirt. Tent camp for the night then head out Monday for key west. Booked 2 nights at the naval base ( trailers) mwr rentals. Then head back on wed , work on thurs!
I'm riding to Key West Saturday morning at O-dark thirty (probably 5 am). Girlfriend is running a race over the 7 Mile Bridge. I'm hoping to get there in time to see her cross the finish line about 8:30. Then we'll hang out with her friends and head the rest of the way south until Sunday.
I've been saying for 6 months now I am going to take a ride down to Key West. (New to the Area) But since it's 6 hours to the bottom I want to stay over night. Where can I stay for one night without paying an arm and a leg? I can't even find a campground that has openings till May and I might not still be around come May (New Job Offer)...
Last time I went down I stayed at a place in Key Largo. From there it is about 2 hours to Key West. It was an old place, but clean and not too expensive. Called Popp's Motel. This might be your answer.
Coming home from Key West yesterday sucked. Hot, humid, sloooow traffic. Left Sunderland Key at 8:30, quick stop for breakfast and made it to Aventura (150 miles) at just after 3:00. About 10 miles of stop and go traffic in Islamorada. There was an art show F'ing everything up. Then hit more stop and go traffic on 826 in Miami. Then another hour Aventura to my house. All in all about 7 hours to get home backing out breakfast time. 7 hours in the saddle doesn't bother me at all, but that's if the wind is hitting my face the whole time.
I'm done with Key West until the fall when it's cooler.
Just returned from my Keys trip. We did Alabama Jacks off card sound , cool place. Feed the mango snappers. Hit a little rain going down. We stayed on the naval base on key west. We left today4/17 around 8am. one little storm on us 1 around key largo. Came back the turnpike upto ft.pierce , then switched over to 95 to sr46. Then to DeLand. Have pics " don't have clue on how to post ".
