Everytime I read one of the HOA horror stories I thank my lucky fukn stars I don't live in one.
In fact, when we were looking for a home about 20 years ago we specifically avoided HOA's or even any areas with 'covenants'.....yeah....there's some old ladies with homes painted god-awful colors....but they paid for 'em, and *** anybody that doesn't like the hideous color. Hell... got neighbors that like the sound of my pipes.
We all get along because when there's something about what a neighbor is doing that you don't like there's no fukn committee or association to bitch to and hide behind....you gotta man-up and talk face to face. You're not going to be bringing up a bunch of pissy-*** **** in those circumstances.
Years ago I had a neighbor come to me and respectfully complain that my big-*** motion detector floodlight was driving him and his OL crazy when they were using their hot tub. It wasn't obvious to me because they lived quite a distance away....what did I do?....I adjusted the light...because he had the courtesy (and *****) to talk directly to me. That's what real neighbors do.
Amazing that some here complian about nobdy holding to thier word. that is until they think they are above the rules. even tho they agreed to them , before it was a inconvenice to them. Far to many think the rules apply to others and not themselfs...they used to be called hypocrites

I dont understand what you are talking about here?
A buddy of mine came up with a way to get rid of speed bumps. Every time anyone who doesn't want them in their neighborhood goes over them, they should lean on the horn,no matter what time it is. Also make it known that is why they're doin' it. You'll be surprised how fast they will disappear.
Lived in an HOA once. Never again. Tried to tell me I needed to re-sod. I always found that getting nasty seems to work for me.
It's a two way street. Some HOAs are out of control, though. In mine, stuff is not enforced. I have a guy two doors down with a 1980s civic or other similar car with a racing stripe and one of the loudest fart-can exhaust you can get. I can hear the car start and idle, then go down the road to the stop sign at 6:30 every morning. It irritates me, but then I think about how loud my motorcycles are. It's a give and take. On the other side, my parent's HOA was talking about allowing only two pets per house hold. The strange thing is most people on their road park in the street. It looks like a block party. They will even park side by side so you have to drive between them almost scraping your mirrors on both sides, but more that two animals is a concern? I would hate to live in a community like that.

I won't live in a place that I have to get approval to paint my house a certain color when I am the one paying for the house. There are some pro's to HOA's but in my opinion, there are way more cons. (my quick 2cents.)
