Default Roku?

OK, seems cable has PO'd us off for the last time, wife has decided we're going to something else, I agreed, and now we have two Roku boxes and not sure what to do with them..

Wife wants to subscribe to Netflix and that seems ok, but wondering what else to add.

We'd like the local channels, and a few of the channels we got on Comcast, like scifi, history, etc.

While I know everybody may like something different, we're looking for the best buy as it seems most channels are a pay for subscribtion.

Anybody going with Roku and what did you end up watching?

TIA

Default Never Heard Of Roku

I Googled Roku and from the sound of it you're just substituting one evil for another. I live near enough to metropolitan NY and Philly so that I can receive FREE OVER THE AIR tv signals. TV is still free, if you are able to set up an old fashioned TV antenna (UHF). I get approxomately 30 channels with the new broadcast frequencies.

Of course the wife wasn't happy without her reality shows so I went and represcribed to cable. Great deal for 2 years then up mine! I could live without TV all together but not internet. It's a balancing act between wanting to watch something, internet, phone and money!
My choices -
cable - tv, internet, phone
DSL - internet, phone
satellite - tv
free tv

I agree on the one evil for another, but considering all seem to do is watch commericals interupted with occasional TV shows, I'm looking for the lesser of the two.

A outside antenna is in the works, it's 12 degree's here right now so it may be a bit..

Thanks.

I bought a Roku just before Christmas, as I also am tired of the cable company sticking it up my ***...
I'm still in the "tryin' it out" stage; I've found that it's not exactly as cheap as it's advertised to be. What I do like is I can pay for exactly the premium channels I use, not a lot of crap included in a bundle that I never watch. I do like that I can pay one fee for NetFlix, and watch a variety of shows and movies, and not have to subscribe to various movie bundles.

Even if it works out to be as much than cable, just to be able to miss the 800+ channels of crap it'd be worth it.

Somebody at work suggested looking at the Redbook channel, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

Might grab a indoor antenna and see what's out there too.

Anybody try Apple TV or TiVo?. I'm sick of the high cable/internet bills too. We have Netflix but only get two movies a month. What about Hulu +, could you just have internet service and do Hulu for the reality shows like OCC and shipping wars?

I use Roku (have cable as well) I have subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu plus. With just those and the free stuff (crackle etc) there seems to be plenty of stuff to watch.I was disappointed that it didn't have a youtube app though or a browser.I bought a Roku for my mom recently who lives out in the country without cable tv and she seems to like it a lot. I connected it to my Netflix and Hulu acct. so it is totally free to her.Now every time I call or drop by I am interrupting her from tv.

No more cable here past three yrs! Got tired of the outrageous pricing, and cable companies increasing prices without my knowing. I have a blue ray box that picks up my wireless signal, and believe me when I say, there are more than plenty movies and TV channels. documentaries, new movie arrivals, children and family, etc to watch all for just 7.95 per month. No sense in paying for what you can get for free, and as far as weather, and news I log on to my pc. I have my laptop hooked to my 55" HDMi tv and can watch anything I can find online or listen to. No Roku for me, not needed

Looking into running a cable over to the downstairs TV from the computer now too, seems Hulu is popular so we'll look into that, thanks.
