I personally feel it's extreme arrogance to think that other people should be "held up" so bikers can keep together. Everybody feels like they are special; cages, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles. Each group believes they have reasons to "justify" why they should receive special consideration.
I believe if everybody just followed the rules of the road, there would be far less tension between the groups sharing the roadways and traffic would flow better.
Just my 2 cents...
That was the 1st and only run that I was in that did that. I have been blocked in by large and small groups and it didn't bother me. I personally don't think they (most of them) are trying to be a holes, but trying to keep a safe pack. I would never do it again after seeing those guys stopped by the police . just my .2 cents. Oh wait that's my last .2 cents till pay day. I need that back.
One charity ride I went on had at least five-miles of bikes side-by-side in close formation and local law enforcement leap frogged to block all the on-ramps. I know it was at least that long since I was at one sign that stated a particular exit was 3 miles ahead. It was bikes past that and I was somewhere in the middle. Initial staging area was held at the local motor speedway on the edge of town.
On the smaller runs, a few people I know will block traffic. However, most will not. I just never expect it. Sometimes, the cages will stop and waive us through though this has never happened with taxi cabs.
As a matter of fact, I was on a motorcycle military escort with a law enforcement escort leading. It was also at night. Damn taxis refused to pull over to the right even when the flashing lights were going. Then some blips of the siren, then some direction over the loud speakers. Bottom line is that some of the taxi cab drivers in this town have no respect for anyone. If they hit you, don't expect them to stop either.
Your choices in your poll are pointless. No one except law enforcement officers, DOT workers, or city/county workers have the authority to block intersections. To think otherwise is stupid, not to mention the liability that a "blocker" assumes.
You need to ride your own ride, obey the traffic laws and arrive alive. Groups of bikers have no more rights than any other motorist. Get use to it.
I won't block intersections because I hate it when they laugh at me while they write out my stupid prize !

I agree as well, but I have been known to wave bikes through at stop signs even when I have the right of way.
I guess I should have been more specific about option three that people didn't mind "either way".
I see that there are many who are no longer courteous to other drivers.
I am not talking about a large organized ride or charity event, but if I came upon a group of bikes trying to exit a parking lot, I would have no problem waiting for them to exit. I would do the same if they were a group of school buses or utility workers.
If you ride with a group that needs to stop traffic for "safety", you need to ride with a different group. It`s not that big of a deal to catch back up, or to have the leaders slow down or pull over. Just my 2 cent.

gees lighten up guys, why not wait that couple of minutes and let a poker run or charity ride go thru together. it's only a short wait and it's safer than having 20 bikes on the shoulder waiting for the other 10.
I don't think large organised rides are what we are talking about here..........
