It does not matter one bit what others suggest or wear!

Get the one that fits your head correctly. It should feel tight at first with no pressure points.

Another vote for Shoei Neotec. Very quiet, vented, light, built-in sun visor, pinlock system. Pricey but worth it if it fits your head shape correctly.

As posted earlier, try a bunch on. Get the one that fits you best. A little snug at first is fine. They do break in a little.

Personally, I use the HJC BT-MAX. It is the HD helmet without the stickers.

It lacks a chin guard (you can buy one later)...so the air comes right on in. Also the top vent rattles when closed. Otherwise, it is sufficient.

yeah dat.....I got one a year ago to use for the winter months. I'm across the bay in southern Maryland. its a little more expensive than some but it is comfortable and has the pinlock visor system. I also like the drop down sun screen. thing I like about the Shoei is it comes with a chin curtain that really helps on those crisp mornings. I have another shoei skid lid that I use for the spring and summer when the temps are warmer or it not raining.
check out the shark modular too...it has a neat feature that moves the chin bar back to the rear of the helmet so its more like a 3/4 until you pull the face shield down. Revzilla is a great place to get anything moto related. quick shipping, great videos on a lot of products and bonus points for purchases that are applied to your next purchase. good customer service too....free exchanges are a plus too. good luck.

Kind of the same dilemma I'm debating. I'm looking for a full or modular helmet to use on a shieldless bike. With this helmet, I'll also install a Sena 20s communicator, primarily for BT tunes. Most comments I hear is that a full face would be quieter to take advantage of the headset speakers. Never owning a modular, I don't know how loud they can be or how convenient they are? So far, leaning to the full face....

one thing about the NEOTEC by Shoei is that the ear holes are shallow and the Harley mike and speaker sets that come with the new bikes don't fit. they would have to be cut out so the speakers would fit. I have not modified my helmet. that's the only negative thing I have to say about the Shoei NEOTEC.

I've been a fan of HJC over the years because they just tend to fit my shape of head the best. They have a new IS-Max II modular out so I might have to look at that. How often do you you modular users actually flip them up?

What ever brand or style you choose, be sure to check out some of the closeout shops for the best deals. I couldn't care less about wearing last year's styles or designs in helmets and it's a great way to save some cash. As others have mentioned, it's been my experience that HJC offers a lot of bang for the buck. I also prefer modular styles for their convenience. They are slightly more noisy than non-modular styles, but not by a lot when riding behind a windshield or fairing.

Shoei's also fit higher on my head which causes the ear foam to press on my ear lobe. Not real comfortable on long rides. While some may cost a little (couple hundred) more, if you are more comfortable on long rides, it may be worth it like it is for me.
