Default Recommend my upgrade...

I have a 2003, Road King Classic. I LOVE it! No intension of a replacement. So far, it has a Stage 1 kit, true dual exhaust and 203 cams. But it still has the stock 5-speed tranny and 88 cu in. motor.
I don't need to make it a 110 Screamin' Eagle, but I'm ready for a bit more power. I had the bottom end done about 2 years ago (under warranty, since I bought it used 3 years ago). I was told that I could do the top end next without ant problem, but he never really clarified what my options were.
Can I put a 103 cu in displacement top end on it as a bolt-on? Or will I then also need to add a 6-speed tranny at the same time? From what I can piece together, the final drive ratio of both is still 1:1.

I'd upgrade suspension first. I don't think the 103 is a straight bolt on.

Talk to Scott at Hillside Performance. He'll fix you up with a 98" kit that'll knock your socks off for not too much $$$.

Go with the 1550 big bore if you want to do it on a budget...a stroker kit if you have the dollars....

I agree with all the above, although Scott will probably recommend a 98" big bore. He can also port your heads and recommend and supply a set of cams, so everything works just so. Upgraded suspension will also make your bike quicker! Honest.

You can do a cylinder "bolt on" kit that will get you between 95-98 inches. Any more and you have to do machine work. Raise compression when you go big-bore, and add new cams and you will see a big improvement in power. Add head work and you will be wiping the road with 99% of the bikes you come across. As far as the 6-Speed upgrade??? That's your call. For $150 you can add a transmission pulley and get whatever final drive you want. I don't care if I have 5 or six gears, I prefer to spend money elsewhere.

Bore your cylinders for 95/98" 10.5 pistons. Get matching cams, headwork and tune. Don't worry about only 5 gears.

I would do a 95-98" inch. Don't get crazy trying to get all you can that would be costly.

Stage 3 or 4 heads with a 95/98 inch cams that you like. Do what is needed for a good reliable engine from there.

Any clue what the guy was thinking by putting in the 203 cams? I do like the idea of suspension upgrades as well.

Here she is without the Tourpak. Lots of ***** G trim and just put on some nice, black 2-piece rotors that aren't in this photo.
