I've had several set ups. The PBR300x2 is a fine AMP and you should be pretty happy with it. I ran it with both Polk MM651's and BT7.1's.
Since then I've switched to the BT4180 and added lid speakers. The 4180 is a totally different monster. Thing thumps and sounds unreal. Loud and Clear at 80+. The BT stuff costs all the money but it's worth it I'd say.
Worst set up I had was PBR300x2 w/ J&M speakers. Distorted, not clear.
My exact setup (as well as a ton of others) and a great system. By far the best bang for the buck! You will spend a lot more to get better than this setup. Biketronics makes a great product too with a lifetime warranty but is more expensive.
gotta agree, i have the Rockford PBR 300x2with inifinity 6030cs speakers in my '07 E glide classic (fairing speakers only). love it. sure it isn't plug and play, but certainly not rocket science. my buddy has hawg wired in his FLHX 2-3 times the money including the install that i did not have to pay and certainly not in the same league for sound quality and volumeity
Thanks for all the responses. The Rockford Fosgate seems to be pretty popular and sounds like it is just what I need. I'm an audio neophyte but I think I can do the install. Just a couple questions for those of you that have this setup. How did you mount the amp and will the speakers fit the existing holes or will I need adapters. Thanks
i needed adapters to fit the 6.5 inch speakers. about $40 if i recall right off ebay. bought the solid milled ones vs the extruded or what ever they are called. made sense to me that they would be stronger. to mount the amp, i bought some 3/4 square aluminum tube and 3m sticky taped 2 - 6 inch pieces back to front on top of the radio. one on the left side and one on the right side. then screwed the amp to that. lots of room for clearance and the ability for air to flow around and under the amp for cooling.
The mount on eBay made by a fellow forum member is perfect for the amp, the kicker speakers bolt right in and will clear the stock speaker grills... Which is another thing to consider.
