SWThomas, I wish my dealer was doing something like that, They are offering their winter special 10% off parts and labor. The only way they would offer to do the job was HD cams, SE Lifters, SE adjustable push rods, SE bearings. Couldn't be exact on pricing, somewhere $1400 - $1500. That does include the dyno tune after install. I thought it was a little on the high side. Cams are under $300, lifters $100 - $200, a install kit from Fuelmoto $60. Go through the top and reuse stock pushrods. Download a new tune and fine tune with the Power Vision, looking at less than $600 in parts, and lots of forum members will loan/rent the bearing tools. I can do the labor myself. If the dealer was more in the $800 - $1000 range and would use the Andrews or S&S cam I would have said do it. I have talked to a couple of Tech's that do side work in off season, they are talking about $400 labor and will install what ever I bring them. Most say it's a 2.5 to 4 hour job.

If you go through the top and use your stock pushrods make sure you know the base circle of the cam you put in is the same as your stock cam or se cams

I will probably do the job myself, I have wrenched on cars for almost 50 years including complete engine rebuilds. I have good hand tools and torque wrenches, would just have to get the bearing tools. I might change out the slip on's, been thinking about the Wild Pigs.
I'm not that well versed in cams, but I can tell you that cams aren't all that hard to do. I can also say that the Andrews 21's pull from almost right off idle to around 4800 rpm. If you're like me, 70mph puts you right about the middle of that rpm range. I only have an 88' motor, so I can't speak to how it will work on yours, but I really like mine. I have the cam tools you can use if you need them.

I installed the 551's. I also have AC, power duels, pc5 with autotune, and rineharts. You won't be downshifting anymore. The slip ons will not be a noticeable improvement.

Just Plain John, Thanks I'll keep the tools in mind, December is a busy month at work, no time off until January, I hope to have made my choices by then and have the parts, or at least ordered them. I have to spend a couple days cleaning up the garage so I will have plenty of clean work room. What tools do you have? I know you need the bearing puller, the bearing install tool, and some say the cam locking tool. Any others?

I know some frown at it but I used the free rental tools from Auto Zone, (blind hole puller an seal bearing installer) and I made my own locking tool out of JB Weld in a ziploc back. Worked fine.... Froze the bearings overnight and the went in with minimal force tapping lightly....it was easy...getting them aligned with the TDC piston was harder to me than installing and removing the cams...

I have the bearing tool and a set of lifter holders. I do not have the cam locking tool, and recommend you get one although it can be done without them. The cam lock tool is affordable. Pay shipping both ways.
