Default flhtk windshield

I just bought a 2011 limited and was looking for advice on what would be a good windshield. I have a nonstock one now and it is ok but would love to hear from peoples experiences what is the best you have encountered.I was thinking of going to a stock 13 inch high but there might be something better?

you'll have to change your username.

I use stock windscreens cut to size- the bottom, hidden, edge with a rotozip- easy.

I cut them so that the top edge of the windscreen "appears" to intersect the road about 40' ( 13 meters) ahead of the bike...that gets most of the bugs and grit sailing overhead.

As I use 3 different seats ( of different heights) I swap windscreens when I swap seats.

take off stock windscreens usually cost me about $35, check the classifieds

The H-D Lexan is optically good and is tough- I've taken an apple sized rock at 65 MPH and it just left a little mark ( some of the cheapo aftermarkets could crack or break)

I stay away from the "recurve" for cost, and also because I will tuck into the fairing in crap weather, the recurve won;t allow me to tuck in and look through.

I have an 8" Klockwerks that I trimmed to about 7" as described above by mkguitar. I judged the correct height just as mkguitar did but went about 35 ft. out instead of 40. Seat is a Corbin Dual Tour. Might not be for everybody, but it has worked for me for the last 32,000 miles.

The height that works for you is going to be different than for me. I'm 5-7 and a 7-inch shield with a Mustang seat works perfectly for me on my 2012. You want to be able to see over it. The stock 12-inch shield was much higher than my personal riding preference. See if the dealer has some used touring bikes - I'd be they do - and see if you can sit behind some different shields to get an idea of what might work for you.

noting that you are northern neighbor in Chilliwack BC, i suspect its a little cool and wet on the west coast and that at times, a little extra protection may be in order. I ordered a a windshield from Clark's Custom Windshields a few years ago that was unique in that it offered an additional 1.5 inches on each side giving about 3 extra inches in the width of the windshield, great for that little added protection http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/index.html. They modified/redrilled to fit a Premeux Fairing i purchased for my Yamaha Road Star. The Clarks were great people and provided great customer service answering questions before and after the service. I still have it on my 2006 Yami and has provided over 25000 trouble free miles and protection from the wind rain and cold.
I've been running a stock windshield on my 2013 FLHTK after trying a flat top from LRS. It didn't provide what i wanted and was probably in part my fault in ordering a 12 inch instead of a 13 inch shield so i went back to stock. I think Ms Claus is bringing me another 13 inch flat top from Clark's this year to use during my colder season riding. I recommend them whole in a heartbeat. good luck.

Very happy with my LRS recurve. Reasonably priced and I think they have a sale going on now.
